I also believe that fast food impacts your mental health because whenever i eat at McDonalds for lunch, i feel tired and lazy.

I really like the options that are given, i will use them one day.

I noticed that fatty fast food or fast food in general makes you really tired or sleepy after hours of consuming them. I dropped soda a while back, because how sluggish I would feel from drinking it so much. I feel that this information should be shared with the general public more, because it could help someone create better choices for themselves.
Julie Duong said…
I believe that these informations should be shared with others because people tend to opt for something fast and easy due to their busy lives. The consequences do not cross their minds at such time. I personally also feel unproductive and tired after consuming fast food. These tips will encourage others to go for the healthier choice.

From personal experience I have noticed that when you are ordering from a drive thru there are never any nutritional facts on the menu with the food items and because of that I believe that people do not really think twice about how unhealthy the food really is. I bet if the nutritional facts were put somewhere really obvious people will think twice before getting that large combo with fries!

this makes a lot of sense if you think about the massive increase in depression in the last 20 years and how the majority of people eat fast food daily. It is becoming daily meals not 'Fast Food'. It may not be the only cause because there are many other things we are exposed to now a days that our parents and grandparents were.

But we all know even if the food only made your waistline bigger that alone will make the majority of people depressed. Let alone all the chemicals we are eating daily.

I really enjoyed this post here Dr D! I gave up fast food after watching "Super Size Me" about 10 years ago. I had become increasingly overweight by 35 pounds. I gave up soda as well. But this totally makes sense with the anxiety and depression, I had suffered from mildly from 1992-1995 ( right around the time I saw the film) Although the older I do get, (48) it is harder to keep the weight off. But, the depression and anxiety come few and far between! Thanks to this article, I think I am going to re-evaluate my diet today, including a low content of omega-3 fatty acids! Great "Food For Though"!!! :)

This post doesn't need an explanation, it shows what happens to a human being. We consume all these fatty types of meals however we don't understand what happens to our body mostly our mind. Once the meal is consume and processed, our minds tend to day dream and get very tired because of all the fat that was eaten. I feel once people see Super Size Me they will rethink on their food choices. I believe people consume these omega-3 fat acids is because they don't have time for a proper meal yet due to low prices people think its a better option. The tips in the end should help! Take it in consideration. Thanks DrD for sharing!

Wow I never thought of it this way. I admit I am a fast food customer 2 or
More times a week. I do admit this depression I feel after. Sometimes I wanna cry but not knowing why. Now I know that food is the one damaging myself. I will sure change my food habits not to be healthy but to be happy. I watched the video super sized me to analyze more this case and I learned so much. I learned how food makes a difference in health, happiness, and just you as a person. I will sure change and share this to my family to feel better. I still have in mind how is it possible but I understand how it does actually change your mood or emotions . Thanks Dr.D!

Fast food is no way to start the day, especially in the morning since it is the most important meal of the day but a lot of us don't like the effort of making breakfast, a good idea is preparing meals the night before that way when you wake up you know you have something to start off the day right.

Fast food is definitely convenient but in the long run your energy level is not what it would be if you had a nutritional meal. You can also make eating healthy convenient if you prepare your meals for the week ahead of time. A quick breakfast can include hard boiled eggs with an avocado, and you can even eat that on the run. Other examples of food containing omega 3 are: flaxseeds, walnuts, soybeans, and salmon to name a few.

Vto10: absolutely i agree with post. fast food is so harmful with our health. it make people are more overweight. and it is so duty.1 packet include least 670 to 720 kcal and we had to work out 1 hour.

(CCC, Psychology 100). Fast food is actually convenient and the best way to complete your meal fast, but it is not good for your health. You'll die soon if you eat it everyday. You should not eat it so many times every week. In my opinion, you can eat it from 1 to 2 times a week, and then eating more healthy food such as vegetable, fish, milk, eggs,... Especially, you should drink a lot water everyday to make sure your body is supplied enough water.

Fast food always taste good. However, we all know that they are lack of nutrition and bad for our health. A meal of fast food can goes up to thousands calories and have really high sugar content. Moreover, they are all "bad carbs"; we can have it once in awhile. By the way, it's good to know that fast food can cause depression and anxiety. This part is so "scary".

Not surprising that the foods wreaking havoc on physical health also cause issues with our mental well-being. The body and mind are interconnected, if one suffers the other will.
Much like depression causes over/undereating or a serious illness can cause mental instability. Very interesting infographic.

Thanks to this post, I realized a lot of helpful facts about fast food. Eating fast food too much can make people cause obesity as well as some mental issues. The calories contained in fast food are about 6-7 as much as in homemade food. Also, the fat in fast food can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. Briefly, this information is very useful for all of us.

Fast food used to one of the best options when I don't have time to eat at a restaurant or cook something to eat. It helps me to save time, and the cost is also very cheap. However, since I have seen Mr.D's post about the harms of fast food. It is not only affects our physical heath such as increasing fat and redundant energy in our body but also brings many bad impacts to our mental health. According to what I have learned about a healthy life on Dr.D lecture, If I want to live longer, I have to eat healthy by cutting out fast food from my menu every day and also eat more veggie. Therefor, I gonna get rid off my bad habit which is eating fast food and try to eat more vegetable. Finally, thank for the very helpful information on this post, it gives me more motivation to change my eating habit.

I think that the convenience of fast food is primarily the source for the industry's popularity. Consumers associate foods like chicken nuggets and greasy burgers as a helpful protein because they are meat but in reality they are the complete opposite. It is so simple to pack healthier alternatives rather than stopping for a bite to eat and the impact of doing so can be tremendous in bettering one's health! Great read thanks for sharing! Alisha L. I’m trying so hard to stop eating fast food! But the convenience of it just makes it that much harder to think healthy. What I do try to do though is order what looks healthy on the menu sometimes. After seeing the problems that come with eating unhealthy I definitely need to stop my bad habits, just go the mile to either go to the grocery store and buy healthy foods to prepare myself, the internet is so effective with getting healthy recipes from there so why not do it?! I need to make a change for my children’s future, so we can live a better life.

The food is killing many Americans because all of the chemicals that are in it. I have a few friends who traveled to Africa and their diet changed because of the country they were in and they felt way better. I noticed that fast foods are around minority neighborhoods and healthy places are near white neighborhoods and that is an issue. I believe people should be educated so they can begin to understand how these foods can affect your body.

I get off of work around 10:30 PM on a usual work day, so my food options are limited. When I consume fast food, I do not get the satisfaction of knowing that I ate a healthy meal. I instantly feel guilt, which puts a strain on my mental state. I fall asleep quick soon after, but wake up not in the best of mood. I have to continually struggle to find a healthy physical and mental balance throughout my day. It is my choice, yet I am sometimes weak to the power of the Golden Arches.

This picture sums up the issue with fast food, regardless of where your get it . Fast food chains are usually concerned with how much cash they can pull out of your pocket while getting away with harming our bodies. Tragic that the big fast food companies take very little initiative to solve the problem while local restaurants take this into consideration.

I have personally known people who eat fast food on a daily basis, and they tend to feel sick and even depressed. They tell me they don't cook since they have never seen anyone in their home cook, and their parents always ate out. (I didn't know this existed).

The bottom line: learn to cook. At least you will know what's in your food instead of leaving it to luck to save you from salmonella. Even if it's a simple recipe, it's better than eating diabetes and heart disease.

I myself am often a fast food customer because of my busy schedule, and I can definitely agree that fast food has an effect on mental health. A couple months ago, I noticed I started getting real lazy, and it was also around the time I started eating out a lot. Eating processed foods that a fried, high in cholesterol, sugars, etc. are known to take a toll on the body, even though most don't believe it to be true. However, as I'm dealing with the "struggle" myself, I could definitely relate to this blog.

I believe fast food restaurants are actually a pretty big problem for our country. They're probably one of the biggest, if not the biggest reason for most of all the obesity problems that we have. It's unhealthy eating, full of fat or trans fat, grease, just nasty eating. Maybe once in a while it's ok , but weekly or few days a week and that's very bad for people. With all the large sizes, extra large size, and super extra large size. Biggest problems and especially for the kids eating all that extra nasty fatty food. And when you're always eating bad, you're gonna start feeling bad from the inside as well.

This makes total sense of why you feel so good when you start eating that cheeseburger, and than you feel terrible after like 10 minutes after consumption. Just thought it was just me. As a child, my parents always encouraged me not to eat fast food, and always home cooked meals. I really think that over the past few decades, the fast food epidemic has led most americans to unhealthy lives. Within the average American’s life now, obesity and depression are the two most impactful diseases on a person. Fast food chains really make sure to put factors into their foods that can majorly affect people’s health, just to keep themselves in business. This article really helped to pinpoint some of the reasons why not to eat fast food.

^ As Miriam said my parents also always encourage me to eat healthy foods and to avoid junk food, especially at this age when my body is still changing day by day. I think at the moment when biting into that hamburger people don't seem to realize what they're putting in their bodies, as long as its delicious everything is fine and they forget about the consequences. It is sad to know that the most consumed vegetable is a potato (french fry), those potatoes are not enough to give your second brain power to make you strong. In reality vegetables are meant to make you stronger and provide protection. This chart has really shown me the damage i'm causing to my own body and now i know their is a limit to what i eat.

Both mental illness and fast food were (and unfortunately still are) highly prevalent in my household.
As for mental health, my mother has been suffering from major depression for the majority of her life. It was not until recently she was able to discontinue medication due to treatment breakthroughs: she found that acupuncture and botox were helpful treatments and were worth the high expense. It was also not until recently that I discovered that my father has been taking prescribed medications to combat anxiety. I do not know how long or if he still continues taking the medication. As for myself, I was diagnosed with persistent depressive disorder during my early high school years, and I have been on SSRIs since diagnosis.
As for fast food, my family has never been financially stable. Thus, we turned to fast food dinners quite often because of its cheap price and convenience. We were always aware of the health risks posed by diets such as ours, but we could barely afford typical trips to grocery stores. I would become self conscious about my diet, but for the wrong reasons: I was not concerned with the health risks, I was concerned about the perceptions my peers could of had had they discovered that my family were fast food frequents. In this way I felt isolated from my peers, and possibly this isolation could have contributed to the onset of my depression aside from genetic susceptibilities.
Stacy Lopez said…
Although my family is not invluded in the percentage of people that consume fast food each day, I still see the impact. We typically eat out once, sometimes twice a week. I have seen that fast food can contribute to mental illness. One time I decided that I was not going to eat it, and for the next couple of days, I was energwtic, happy and outgoing. I am usually a very worrisome person so that was something that really helped out a lot.
I believe that if people decided to cut back on it or just not eat fast food at all,we would all feel better and live a long healthy life.

This post was very informative, I think that there needs to be more education on how different foods affect the body. Many people do not realize that not all calories are equal, depending on what that calorie is composed of, there are different affects in the body. I have noticed this with many trendy foods that are "healthy" but if you look at what is actually in it, you realize it is not. Overall, there should be more food education in America in order to help prevent chronic illness, from food choices, from occurring, rather than just treating it once it has already affected somebody.

I definitely do believe that eating out especially fast food places will take a toll on your body if its constantly and frequently consumed. After one time of just eating out within that hour of eating out, I start to feel lazy and bloated, whereas if I cook at home I don't feel those negative effects.

I have always thought there was a connection between junk food and lowered mental health. Foods high in refined sugars are not good for the brain and not only are you ruining your body's regulation of insulin, but increasing inflammation and oxidative stress. There is even a new branch of psychology called nutritional psychiatry that explores in more depth the effects that low-quality foods have on the brain. -MJS

I think this a topic that is often overlooked. As the saying goes "You are what you eat." Some may eat fast food in order to relieve them of the stress or anxiety, however, they might just be making it worse. It is fascinating to know that food has so much influence on our mental state. That is why it is important to eat healthily.

What is the most frustrating is that fast food is so cheap and real foods have a luxury price tag. There are so many fast food companies that have taken over the standard American diet. While making profit is understandable, these fast food companies need to take a look at what is going on. They obviously do not care about the well-being of the public and that is why there are more fast food restaurants that are being constructed especially in lower income neighborhoods. What I believe needs to happen is more and more farmers markets coming into these neighborhoods. Perhaps, these farmers can set up at a local school, so that families can see actual produce being sold and sell these food items for a reasonable price. Each community needs to work together especially for children because a lot of these fast food companies will target younger people. There is much to be done about the fast food epidemic and we all need to be educated and make better food choices. Rhee

I think that one of the things that makes fast food so appealing to millions of Americans is the cheap cost associated with it. For example, struggling parents who are making minimum wage might find it cheaper to buy their children food from a fast food restaurant after a long day of work to save time and money. Additionally, fast food has negative connotations on mental health because of an increase anxiety and create sugar rushes on people. Then, consuming it at least once a week can create serious health problems for those consuming it so frequently.

After looking at the picture provide, we see that there is a connection of fast food to mental illness because most fast foods are low in omega-3 fatty acids which have been linked to anxiety and the lack of omega-3 fatty acids combined with carbs can lead to blood sugar fluctuations that can cause depression. Since, there are thousands of fast food restaurants, people have access to it and what makes things worse since it can be cheap and quick, people tend to buy it. People who have eaten fast food tend to be tired after eating fast food. There are people who eat fast food on the daily so we have to spread this information to everyone. Next time you want to eat fast food, go make yourself a healthy meal for your health and well-being.- A. Julian

To whom it may concern:
Wooow this information is very helpful. I believe this type of information should be advertise in bus stops and billboards like the new movies coming up. Eating fast food, i believe is not completely bad, but the amount and how often we consume this fast food is the problem. Not only because it is fatty and makes us increment our waistline but all the side effects we don't know about. It makes us tired, mire difficult to digest, makes us moody and also increments the possibility of developing other health issues.
It makes me remember how different is the approach of this type of food back in the days specially in other countries. I am from Argentina and i remember when i used to live there as a child. Eating fast food or having a meal at Mcdonalds was a once in a while dine out activity, because eating at this type of restaurant was very expensive and not affordable for every an everyday meal. Without thinking that it was actually non beneficial for our bodys. But the idea of being at Mcdonald and have a happy meal along with a toy it is the most amazing thing for a child. Nowadays especially in USA, it is completely the opposite. Eating fast food is the cheapest and good organic or home made food is the most expensive.

The fast life we all live in this country makes people to find fast food on every corner and a affordable price which leads us to eat more junk food without thinking how bad is for our health and body. Specially for the kids in development. INcreasing possibilities of Obesity on population.
Therefore i believe we should have this information posted on places where people can see it more often and get educated easily like all the other information is planted in our minds without even noticing. Can you imagine which will be the reaction in humanity if we have the city with more advertisements like this one ?

I think Now more than ever junk food has become a new normal, since everyday I always see the same people ordering at the same food everyday for the whole week. yes, I am aware about Uber eats, Grubhub and etc. But I am not talking about those people, I am talking about the people who would order mcodnalds happy meals, Quarter pounder, Travis scot burger, etc. I honesty feel society are always trying to find new customers to buy some junk food just because its limited edition . The statistics show there are 50 Millions who eat junk food on a daily, Do we really want to keep that 50 millions rising up to a even higher number.Eating junk food does. not only affect your health. it also affect you mental health, but you wanting junk food whenever you feel sad or depress and you eat your feelings which can lead to anxiety panic of you don;t stop because you would physically shake if you do not have junk food in your system where you are feeling a certain way and that can lead to more anxiety and it may worsen your mental health. you have the option and power to change junk food to. healthy food, and watch after some time of eating healthy you will begin to glow up .

I do believe fast food can cause mental illness. The food you put into your body is important. It should be nutritious so the affects on the body will be positive instead of negative. It’s so many Americans that eat fast food on a daily that’s why you see an increase in obesity, mental and physical health issues etc. We have to be cautions of what we put into our bodies. After viewing this picture, I was able to identify that the harmful effects of fast foods are many; one of them being a detrimental effect on the brain. As noted, these fast foods are devoid of many nutrients, which are necessary for the body's healthy growth. Since the demand for nutrients is not met out, it hampers the functioning of the brain. Overeating of fast foods is bound to affect the normal functioning of Synapses perform the role of handling learning and memory issues, and too much of calories obtained from these foods are not suitable for them. Not merely this, but fast foods tend to interfere with the working of neurotransmitters, which are responsible for the body's happiness and well-being. The consumption of junk food leads to inflammation in that area of the brain, responsible for memory and learning ability. This is the result of a chemical reaction occurring inside the body. Not only this, the ingredients used in these fast foods sometimes suppress the activity of the brain related to learning and memory. Thanks, Dr. D, for sharing

The statistic of 50 million Americans eating fast food daily came as a surprise to me. I never believed it was such a tremendous amount. As we all know, consuming fast food can cause the consumer health problems, such as obesity, depression, heart disease, and many more. Therefore I am glad my mom encourages me to eat healthy food and makes home-cooked meals. Although, recently, I have been door dashing from fast-food restaurants, which is not suitable for my health. Therefore, I will attempt to cut out fast food and use the tips provided in the post to have a healthier lifestyle.

Fast food is popular because the food is inexpensive, convenient, and tastes good. However, fast food is often made with cheaper ingredients such as high fat meat, refined grains, and added sugar and fats, instead of nutritious ingredients such as lean proteins, whole grains, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Eating a poor quality diet is linked to a higher risk of obesity, depression, digestive issues, heart disease, stroke, type Two diabetes, cancer, and many more issues. For the past 3 months I have changed my eating habits and so far I’ve lost 40 pounds and i feel so much better physically and mentally. -ImeldaF.

I notice that in every corner of the "low income neighborhood" there's a fast food restaurant, and I always said to myself, it's more healthier and cheaper if you buy your own food and cook it. it makes alot of sense that it contribited to mental illness. I do take out once in a while for the fact that the cleanest meal itr the one that you maade, sometime if you see behind the counter, you would be sick to your stomach. the brain is clogged no signal is going nto the brain. not enough nutirents. very educational, now i'll of reconsider buying that ocassional take out.

I truly believe that fast food can impact an individual's mental health. There are many artificial ingredients that go into the fast food we consume and they can affect our body's blood levels and much more. Not to mention, when we eat food we are basically feeding our brain so the more unhealthy we eat, the worse our mental health can be.

Due to the high prices of the more healthier options, more low income families rely on cheaper and faster food. While a double double burger from in-n-out is roughly 5 dollars, a salad with everything you want on it can reach up to 15 dollars. Its sad that we rely on. fast food so much, it is the main reason why there is a show called my 600 pound life.

I'm not even surprised about the number of people that eat fast foods on a daily basis. There's literally a fast food on every street and you'll always have one near you no matter where you are or where you go. And fort the adults that either leave home without food or leave work hungry. And are desperate for food , seem to only have fast food as their only option to fulfill their hunger.

I’m shocked to know that fast food could be the cause of so many mental illnesses. I think the reason why so many Americans eat fast food is because they make the prices convenient in low income neighborhoods. In addition, they purposely make healthy alternatives expensive so people will mostly likely chose the unhealthy choice. Furthermore, fast food is a way out for people. It help satisfies their cravings and their life stress.

At first, when I read about 44% of Americans eating fast food at least once a week caught me off guard since I thought the percentage would be more. In relation to mental health, foods that lack fatty acid as well as the inclusion of refined carbs can lead to anxiety and depression. To be honest, I believe it’s hard to cut the consumption of junk food since it may be the “safe zone” of people that suffer from an eating disorder known as binge eating. Even though the infographic mentions that these foods can be replaced by veggies or other healthy foods, it takes so much time to even get used to eating healthy.

Working in the construction industry, I noticed the difference between fast food and a home prepared meal, we think eating fast food is convenient, it's cheap and right at your fingertips within minutes after ordering, after we eat and get back to work. After A few hours I would get really sluggish and sleepy, and work progress would slow down. When I bring my lunch, prepared at home, after eating it around lunch time, I felt more energetic, lighter on my feet, and I still have energy, after work. I believe fast food plays a big part, in mental and health disorders, for people in low income communities, where you find more fast food restaurants.

This post reminds me a lot of the "Supersize" documentary, it touched on the topics of stress eating and over eating because it "tastes good". The most surprising thing I saw on the post was how the most eaten vegetable in America is potatoes, when you read it is fairly alarming, but thinking it over you realize, "wow, how didn't I think of that." Fast food lacks important nutrients that we utilize to survive. Consuming that much fast food will raise your blood pressure, increase your cholesterol and high blood sugar. Which then leads to increased weight, inability to perform specific tasks and insecurity which ultimately leads depression and more and more eating. Now, that solved noting and it's truly unfortunate that so many Americans go through this on a daily basis.

Every time I eat fast food I also feel lazy and just want to lay down. This messes with my mental health because I know I have things to do but I feel lazy to do them which then stresses me out. I also know fast food isn’t good for you body especially you’re gut which also relates to your mood and emotions. I’ve heard that if your gut is happy, you’re happy as well.

We all know already that fast food is not good for us. I believe that one serving once a week is not going to do damage to healthy people; Moreover, fast food is a convenient and easy way to have a meal fast. I’d got into the bad habit of grazing on junk food. But I read some articles due to this post; Fast food is never good for us. It can go up to thousands of calories and too much sugar in it. it can cause mental illnesses such as anxiety, and depression. Also, it contains low omega-3 that help lower the risk of heart disease, depression, dementia, and arthritis. after reading this post, I know that the bad effects of fast foods are many; so I will try to stop junk food.

From my personal experience unhealthy foods make me feel blah. Of course during the time of eating its delicious your brain is fairing off telling you how good it is. Then it catches up to you and all you feel is discussed and fat. It's ridiculous that these unhealthy fast food places have 1$ meals but then you go to a place that's healthy and its through the roof. Once I started my journey with my health and fitness it became so much easier to choose the better option. My mind body and soul just felt amazing. My energy was up, my skin looked amazing, my self confidence was way up. overall I feel and look amazing. Anyone can do it you just really want to make that change. Food can be a drug also.

It is not surprising to hear that consuming fast food has a negative affect not only on our physical health, but also on our mental health. Our brain and gut are interconnected. Fast food is both inexpensive and convenient, which is why so many people eat it everyday, causing an increase in obesity, anxiety and depression. -AW

The infograph says that 44% of Americans eat fast food once a week, I would be interested to know what percent eat fast food 5 days a week. When you work full time and only get a 30-minute lunch break and there are 4 options near your job, it's so much more tantalizing. It might not be that difficult to pack your own lunch daily, but like my husband says, he likes the variety. I'd like to share this information with him and maybe I can encourage him to bring lunch to work a little more frequently.

I do believe that fast food does mess with your mental health in so many ways. When one decides to eat out rather than make their own food they get into the habit of thinking, "This is such a faster option, I don't have time to make food." When eating fast food, it could also lead to depression as stated in the picture. Those who do not feel the need to eat healthy start to think about their appearance, which could lead to depression and anxiety. There are many healthier options if you do decide to eat fast food, better health, better mentality.

I find that when it comes to fast food it is all around us and fast to get when hungry and when you are living a fast paced life you have no time to cook at home or forget to take your lunch to work, so you end buying fast food.

So, before eating fast food you have a whole lot of energy and then after you eat fast food you will start to feel sleepy and low energy not wanting to do anything just sleep it off. This is the way that I feel when eating fast food.

The only change that I have done is ordering water instead of soda or just ordering the burger with no fries or drink and just drink water.

Eating fast food is always a big no if you are trying to stay healthy and consume natural nutrients in your foods. Fast foods are just for the on the go meals which should still be avoided if possible. These processed foods have usually very high levels of added sugar, fat, and sodium making them taste better. But consuming so much artificial foods in your body can put you at risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, and even diabetes. Also since they're so high in sugar, sodium, and fat these foods can have you feeling sluggish and bloated after consuming them. -OM

I think this post is correct in so many ways. I have experienced it myself. I used to eat out or eat over processed foods a lot before due to lack of time to prepare any dinners or breakfast and I felt the effects of this. I had no energy at all, I started to get anxious, and felt depressed at times. I think healthy eating and incorporating vegetables and fruits and also staying away from processed foods makes a huge difference in a person's health. I changed my way of eating and started exercising and can feel the difference in my health, especially being able to build up energy. Ruiz

I always find that the best version of myself is whenever I don't eat fast food or processed food. I am guilty of stopping at a fast food drive-thru on my way home from work or running errands, but the result is always the same. I feel sluggish and guilty from eating foods I knew I should not have eaten in the first place. The same goes for eating processed junk foods such as chips and cookies. I always have to remind myself that my body is not as young as it used to be and that I need to eat more healthy. This post was a great reminder that I need to make choices with the food I eat, such as adding more fruits and vegetables to my diet and eating less fast food. - NG

With the amount of Data backing the hard effects of eating fast food and mental illness should ring some alarm. That there is even data to review is enough to raise awareness that all these processed foods are causing us issues, whether it be weight or overall bodily performance.

It didn't come to my mind how fast food can cause issues to your mental health, I thought it just caused obesity. it is good to know since I do feel guilty and tired after I eat fast food since its faster to go since I have so much to juggle but I am for sure going to stay in the healthier side and keep these suggestions in mind.

These big fast food corporations make eating fast food so easy and convenient. Now a days you can just order it on your phone and pick it up without any waiting or hassle for a low price. But it's up to the consumer to select items that are healthier if you do decide to eat fast food. Discipline plays an important role when it comes to eating healthy. I have noticed that healthier food is always more expensive that fast food but we have to understand that the few extra dollars we spend on healthy food will benefit out well being. Adame.

I always feel guilty when I eat fast food and try my best to limit it. I'm sure the numbers have risen about how many people consume fast food daily. With all this knowledge on the negative effects of eating fast food, why is eating organically so expensive? I feel like it should be more affordable to cover a larger demographic. Something needs to be done about that.

I believe it is really possible that fast food can be linked to mental disorders considering that most of the served food is unhealthy and that our body response in replace to get energy or the physiological process specially our neurochemicals cannot function properly due to lack of supply, let`s say preservatives that each of these chemicals damaged hormones that communicate between the gut and the brain.

It is highly possible to suffer from these mental issues if you are consuming fast foods often. I cannot deny that these are really tasty and convenient, but in the long run, it cannot give what our body needs. Our body needs nutrients in order to function properly, these foods will not suffice. I guess, it is okay to give in to our cravings, we can eat once in a while but let us not be consumed by these foods.

I feel that, fast food is so addictive and always taste good. However, i avoid it because of the mentality that, it's not well balanced, fill you so fast and hungry sooner. It is good to know that it causes anxiety and depression. No wonder, the anxious and depression rate is rising on higher rate. Thank you Dr D for this post.

People tend to rely on food to help with mental illnesses. Fast food is one of the most common, and although it seems like something that can help in the long run it ruins your physical health.

Fast food effects your mental and physical health in a negative way. It makes you feel lazy, groggy and just plain horrible. It's great when you're consuming it - it's fast, convenient and inexpensive, but the after effects like 'food coma' and feeling terrible about your physical appearance effects your psyche. It is important that we make better decisions about what we feed our body. It will make a huge difference in our day and effect our future selves as well.

I did a report in one of my college classes that identified the relationship between fast food and the human nervous system. Fast food lacks the nutrients the nervous system needs to work efficiently. The addiction Americans have to this processed, unhealthy food is the direct cause of mental disorders such as depression and anxiety.

Fast food does affect your mental health I have severe depression. I always feel like I am struggling to get through the day every day and fast food doesn't make it better it gets me lazy and sluggish. And it makes me feel guilty when I eat fast food because even if it is just fries, I eat I feel so self-conscious about myself that I will starve myself to "drop the weight". A.silva

When eating fast food and comparing it to eating a healthy meal, your body can physically feel the difference. Eating a juicy burger will make you feel sluggish and want to lay down but eating a nutritious meal will do the opposite. With the statistics of how many Americans eat fast food on the daily bases it could really be taking a toll on mental health.

Fast food definitely has a large impact on your overall well-being - both mental and physical. I myself have experienced the effects on the mind that occur when eating too much fast food. When I was in middle school I would often go out with friends to McDonald's and we would eat chicken nuggets to our hearts content. During that period of my life I was always hyperactive and it would often present itself in the form of not being able to focus in class and receiving bad grades. Being in America, fast food is beyond prevalent and too readily available to not consider it as a high option when considering what to eat - and with it being so nutrient deprived and cost efficient it's evident that it is a huge issue when talking about healthy eating habits in America.

There are McDonald's in all 50 states and 49 out of the 50 capitols. 13,438 locations in the US as of 2021. This shows how much fast food has an effect on us. Many people don't realize that eating fast food can mess up not only your body but your mental health. Most articles I read states that eating too much fast food can cause depression and cause health problems. In my opinion everybody eats fast food once or twice but how you maintain yourself can have a great impact to. If you eat an BigMac for lunch make sure you eat a salad for dinner and drink plenty of water. Balance is key.

This post also goes along with the blog about sugar. Sugar is said to be the United state's most addictive drug. There can even be withdrawal symptoms from abstaining from any added sugars. In all of these fast food restaurants, there is added sugar and added oils which makes it addictive for customers. Not to mention, there is a fast food restaurant on every corner, so the convenience is like none other. Even healthier options like Chipotle have meats and veggies that are cooked in rice bran and canola oil. Maybe if we had healthier, and more affordable options, people would start to make the switch.

I have done construction and other labor intensive jobs, and having a light lunch usually doesn't cut it. I would feel hungry again and a little on the weak side, on the other hand if i ate a big order from a fast food joint, i would feel sleepy and sluggish for a couple hours, but that feeling would wear off shortly.

My first part time job was in a fast food joint when I was in high school. I would see people order food almost regularly that you already know them and there usual orders. At that time, I was eating fast food also almost everyday because it was free for employees. People just order out with the easy go to food because of time and not thinking of the consequences. Ever since I stopped working at a fast food, I try not to order any fast food anymore because of how it is made and it is not good for your mental health. KP

Fast food tends to be high in salt, sugar, saturated fats, trans fats, calories, and processed preservatives and ingredients. A wealth of well-conducted research has proven the negative health effects of consuming too much of these food components.
In the short term, fast food impacts blood sugar and blood pressure, increases inflammation, and may mean an individual does not eat enough necessary nutrients. In the long term, a diet rich in fast food could lead to issues with digestion, immunity, inflammation, heart health, obesity. Eating lots of fast food could also impact an individual’s mental health and make them more prone to anxiety and depression. Not all fast food is bad, however. Certain menu items might be lower in these substances than others, while some fast food outlets might focus on providing more healthy options.
To preserve health, a person should try to identify fast food items that contain less salt, fat, sugar, and total carbohydrates, and generally try to limit the amount of fast food they consume.

I know I have to do better and make better choices when it comes to food. - M.Isidro
