Sugar "Less" = Longer Life

I recently had a traumatic day at the dentist. Why can't the dentist use warm water to clean debris from the mouth??? I can feel the cold water, especially when I am not completely numb! That day, I needed a lot of anesthesia in order to numb the two areas in my mouth. I did not eat breakfast before going to my appointment. ("BAD IDEA") As soon as I got out of the chair, the room was spinning. I felt like I was going to faint. ("OMG!") The dentist placed me in a room where I could sit down. She quickly realized that my blood sugar had dropped from receiving the anesthesia. Consequently, I became sad and emotional. The dentist and her staff reassured me that I was going to be alright. So, she gave me a fruity yogurt parfait and a piece of candy to raise my blood sugar. The fruit parfait had 39 grams of sugar in it.  I didn't bother eating the candy. Needless to say, my blood sugar rose quickly and I began to feel better. Now my symptoms were typical as Dr. Gabriel Cousens explains in the video. This whole experience peeked my interest about sugar and sweetners. My research found the following article written by Sheryl Walters, a kinesiologist, nutritionist and holistic practitioner:

The average American eats between 90 to 180 pounds of sugar each year. That is a quarter to a half pounds each day for children and adults! Besides the typical culprits of desserts, doughnuts, and soda, sugar is also found in unexpected items like condiments and bread. Our consumption of sugar is deteriorating our health and increasing the numbers of diabetes, obesity, and many other chronic illnesses.

The typical effects of sugar are taught to us as children. Sugar can cause tooth decay by being used as a food source for the bacteria found on our teeth which causes plaque. In fact, the bacteria can actually turn the sugar into a glue which makes it harder to be washed away by saliva. Sugar also causes hyperactivity, crankiness, and difficulty concentrating in children as any parent can attest to! In addition to these well-known effects, sugar can also contribute to a decrease in immune function, increased cholesterol, overgrowth of yeast gastrointestinal problems, premature aging, cardiovascular disease, and more. There are many detrimental health effects of sugar but fortunately there are some healthier alternatives.

Check out this website regarding the sugar-yeast connection http://www.yeastconnection.com/
("The information is very useful and it works")

Bad Sugar Replacements!
Sugar is often replaced in foods by products that are either lower in calories or cheaper to produce including aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal), sucralose (Splenda), and high fructose corn syrup. These products also have detrimental side effects. ("Difficult for the liver to process"). Replacing sugar as well as these sugar alternatives with natural sweeteners will have a beneficial effect on health.

Good Sugar Replacements! Agave nectar is one alternative that is used by health conscious consumers. Agave nectar comes from the same plant that tequila is made from. It has recently become recognized as a healthy alternative to sugar and artificial sugar substitutes. It is about 90% fructose but is completely natural unlike the processed fructose found in high fructose corn syrup. Another benefit of agave is that it has a low glycemic value (less than 30, compared to sugar which is in the 60's.) A food that is low on the glycemic index is less likely to be converted to fat. Agave nectar is more calorie dense than sugar but because it is about forty times sweeter much less can be used to achieve the same level of sweetness.

Stevia  "This is what I use - Luv it" is another natural alternative to sugar and sugar substitutes. It is an herb native to Paraguay that has been used for centuries as a sweetener. It contains no calories and no carbohydrates. In 2008 the FDA approved its use as a food additive, previously it was sold only as a dietary supplement. Stevia also does not raise blood sugar so is a good choice for diabetics.
Replacement of sugar in your diet can be difficult. Reducing intake of processed foods and replacing sugar with natural sweeteners will increase your well-being, health, and energy.

There is another natural sweetner that I found in my favorite book that is not mentioned in the article above. Now, you won’t find the word sugar in the Bible but you will find-HONEY!
Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
Proverbs 25:27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.
Psalms 119:103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
In the previous passages of scripture the Bible uses honey to metaphorically address man's psychological, physical, and spiritual being. It stresses the importance of using "pleasant words" because it is good for the body physically and spiritually. It tells the reader to use honey in moderation and warns against searching for your own glory. Lastly, God's words are sweeter than honey to the mouth. ("Awesome!")

This is very informative I like going to the dentist but then I don't becausae I do not like to hear that there is something wrong with my teeth. I have been trying to cut out all the sugars that I eat because they hurt my teeth and the pain kills me. But yet I never learn to cut them sweets out and I still eat them. I have though cut out sodas which is good, but thanks for this I will think twice now.

I found this blog extremely helpful. My doctors have told me that my liver is extremely swollen, because of alcohol but Mainly Sugar. Reading that i may consume up to 180 pounds of sugar a year is very scary and makes me wanna cut all the soda and coffee out. I had no idea that bad sugar replacements make it harder on my live, i will defiantly change my ways and sacrifice the better taste. i loved the bible scriptures as well!

I've used stevia sweetner at my previous job before and I've gotten comments that it causes cancer. I've never looked into it.

90-180 pounds of sugar .. that's so much!

I can familiarize with this article in almost every way. Because i grew up in a home of 7 kids and my dad had a very poor paying job, my siblings and I never really had the opportunity to be healthy. I say this because of the lack of resources we had growing up to help us eat healthier. For example, when my mom would go grocery shopping she would always buy plenty of junk food for us kids, as it was something she was able to afford and keep all of her kids full with her budget. Now that my siblings and I are older, some of us suffer from high blood pressure and cholesterol because of the lack of healthy eating as kids. We didnt really have a choice and my parents were never educated enough to know the long term dangers of too much sugar.

Growing up I almost never care about what was in the food I ate. I just wanted what was good. These days, I'm more careful about what I should and shouldn't be eating. I've seen the effects all the soda and candy have had on me, mostly my teeth. If I could go back in time and make better decisions about my eating, I definitely would.

I have never really watched what I eat and seeing most of my friends on diets and eating healthy made me wonder if I should also be doing the same. Watching this made me realize how much sugar I consume in one day as well with my children. I am addicted to the soda, Coke in particular. I drink about 2 + cans a day. I will most definitely watch what I eat a little more now. I notice that I do get those emotions when I don't get them and just made me realize it after what was said on the video.

I have lost so much weight just by cutting out soda, as well with feeling much better throughout my day by switching to stevia, people do not realize the amount of sugar they consume in beverages or even snacks they eat. If we just replace that with fruit or water it will help with weight control immensely.

Awesome post!

i have learned that there are many great sugar alternatives out there
instead of using sugar to sweeten things i use stevia extract, its a plant based natural sweetener, also for foods and mainly smoothies i uses blue agave syrup or natural honey! also if you take a good look at food labels make sure there is no high fructose corn syrup in it, that is used as sugar in many of today's foods, and literally it is toxic to the human body!!!

Eww It's gross how much sugar we put into our bodies on a daily basis. I thought it wouldn't really be something I would need to be concerned with being that I rarely drink soda and I am not at all a dessert or sweets kind of person. I never put too much thought into other unlikely places you would find large amounts of sugar in your foods. I'm a dipper! A saucy kind of girl. The condiments that have the largest amounts of sugar are ketchup, BBQ sauce, and some salad dressings which are important to watch out for. Some healthier alternatives would be salsa, mustard and hot sauce.

I am a sugar addict. I always have to keep candy or something sweet in the house for my cravings. I was told once you break the habit of consuming lots of sugar, your body wont crave it any more. I stopped eating sugar for about a year and its true! The moment sugar crept back into my life, I was hooked. I am addicted. It started at a young age when my mother was working for Nestle. Growing up we had a candy drawer that was always full, a FULL drawer of candy!! Friends parents that I see today and knew me as a kid remember me as the kid who always had candy in her mouth.

Now that I'm more health conscious I try to limit myself but I still cant cut sugar out completely. I've even tried stevia, I just don't like the way it tastes. My father is a diabetic and took a cooking class at Kaiser. In a healthy diet you shouldn't consume more than two small triangle pieces of watermelon. You can have only half a peach. The most fruit you can have is general are berries, your allowed only one cup. These restrictions seem crazy!

I'm hoping that all me other healthy choices will help finesse my sugar addiction.

I can also testify the link between sugar and emotions. The moment I start to get hungry or crave sugar I turn into a sugar monster. I get very irritable and cranky. Hence me keeping sweets in the house. I wonder if there is such a thing as sweet tooth's anonymous??

I've noticed over the past couple of years that my "sweet tooth" has been kicking in - maybe because I'm getting older? And the more I notice the more I worry that it's getting out of control (because it is). I thought that by using Splenda in my coffee to cut on the calories I was helping myself out, but now that you say it's just as bad...::sigh:: I suppose I'll have to switch to agave nectar or Stevia.

Seems that everything is bad these days. Thanks for helping us out. :)

Honey is also used negatively in the bible as a metaphor for temptation; I found this and multiple other verses interesting:

For the lips of the forbidden woman drip honey, and her speech is smooth like oil,

Proverbs 5:3

Be careful with how you perceive sugar and honey because it often leads to temptation/addiction to unhealthy habits.

I really enjoyed this article, I have learned about sugar replacements that I had never heard of. I consume soda daily, and have been trying to limit the amount I drink, but it's been very difficult because when I don't get enough sugar or caffeine I do tend to get headaches. I recently went to the dentist with my husband ..and I ended up getting four cavities filled and he only had one, he drinks a lot more water than I do and eats less junk food, so I do know that all the sugar I have consumed has affected my teeth. Now that I am getting older I am trying to make healthier choices, because I do want to live a longer life.

My grandfather has diabetes, so when my grandmother makes a cake, she doesn't allow my grandpa to eat that cake. She says: “it has a lot of sugar, you can’t eat it. Your blood sugar will increase.” I feel so sorry for my grandpa because he really loves sweet cake. However, after I read this topic, I realize that my grandmother can use another natural alternative to sugar to make cake. By that way, my grandpa can eat the cake he likes without anxiety of a high sugar. In addition, I will apply using others natural sweetener in order to protect my family health. That will be a great way to prevent diabetes, obesity, and many other chronic illnesses.

i found it interesting that we consume that much sugar a year, this is a great example of why everyone has diabetes. I need to try and change my habit with pouring the sugar in my coffee, because i tend to put a lot it in my coffee everyday. When i put the sweetener it does not taste the same it actually leaves a nasty after taste, which i know i should drink it because it is healthy for me. Especially since diabetes runs in my family.

Sugar is definitely a silent killer! I am personally guilty of loving sugar in coffee, soda, and of course chocolates! However, being a sugar lover has its downside. I have lost many family members and friends due to diabetes. My mother, like me, was a sugar fiend. She loved ice cream, sweets, and not to mention chocolate. About two years ago, she went to the doctor and discovered she had pre-diabetes. From that day forward, she changed her eating habits completely. She cut sugar out of her life. Gone were the pints of ice cream and bags of cookies. She started to exercise more, eat veggies, and left sugars for good. Now, she has reversed that diagnoses and is on the path to becoming healthier person. It is important to watch out sugar intake if we want to live a long and healthy life!

Great post! As someone who hasn't eaten refined sugar since February of 2017, I can agree with this whole heartedly. Not only has cutting sugar from my diet, eliminated the brain fog I so frequently used to experience, but it has also dramatically decreased the amount of headaches I get. Initially, cutting sugar was incredibly difficult, causing me to be irritable and even depressed, but after the first few weeks, I stopped craving sugar, and the more time goes on, the more disinterested in sweets I become.

I was aware of the many consequences of eating excess sugar, but I wasn't aware that they were getting into our normal loafs of bread (even though they are technically made of sugar, just not the sweet kind).

Glucose is the common energy source for our bodies since they are the simplest unit of energy to break, but the fancy named sugars we read a lot are the larger versions of glucose. You can imagine a person trying to chop wood. It's easier to break twigs than to break a tree trunk. The energy needed to cut those sugars take a lot of work (and even more for the artificial ones since our bodies are not evolutionarily adapted to break them down).

I am not completely sugar free, but after switching apple juice for tea or water, I definitely feel a change in energy. It's small, but the extra bit of energy that I get helps to push me to the end of the day. I intend to go sugar-free at some point, but I know cutting sugar completely isn't an answer either. Everything in moderation as the saying goes.

The article started off as a hilarious experience but then turned into a good piece. I’ve discussed on numerous occasions the benefits of using good nature food sources or replacements. The piece about honey was good. The Bible speaks of the body as a temple and should be treated as such. The Bible even references to not eating pork due to it is the dirtiest animal.

Personally, I have a major sweet tooth ranging from chocolate to ice cream. After reading this article however, In order to be healthier and decrease the rates of type 2 diabetes that could occur in the future, I think I'm planning on cutting the excess sugar out of my daily meals altogether. The occasional cookie however, I can't resist.

Sugar has always been a big problem for me. While in the womb my mother didn't drink enough milk as she had to, so when my teeth started coming out as a baby they were super weak. I had to go to the dentist frequently to get them checked. Not only was it annoying but it was really terrifying. Just entering the building and hearing the drills and the strong scent of the building in general sent chills down my spine EVERYTIME. Oddly it never stopped me from eating candy I actually didn't have a care in the world. Sadly I cant just stop eating sugar its literally in everything!!

After reading and watching the video on how sugar effects your body, it really gave a toll on me on what types of food I should eat. Sugar is everywhere in my household. I literally crave everything that has sugar. Sugar is the one thing that keeps me up and go in my everyday lifestyle. Nevertheless I thought to myself that in order for me to have a healthy life, I should start cutting off some sweets and start thinking about what types of food that will benefit me in my daily life. I should really think about what I need to eat and avoid any sugary temptations. This post really helped me to limit my sugary thoughts. Thank you. -Ginetta R

It’s hard keeping my eating habit to a balance since I am so young and don’t really gain weight I eat whatever I want from fast food to cake. I now realize that sugar doesn’t even have to effect your weight it can effect so many other factors internally that isn’t even expressed in your appearance tnank you for this great blog and I’m going to try my best to keep my sugar intake at a minimum.-Isis B.

As a child always had the same outcome in tooth decay as stated called plague that eventually lead to cavities. Over the years I have cut as little sugar and restrained from eating processed food and sugar sweets that can eventually lead to over working the pancreas leading to medical conditions stated in the video. The information stated in this blog really opened up the idea that i have to be more in balance when it comes to consuming foods and how others around me know about the causes sugar has. America is huge so 80% of food with fructose corn syrup is unbelievable. Thank You for this informative blog - Yesenia.L

This post give nothing but the truth. When I was young I had a lot of cavaties. My sweet tooth had led me to have several appointments with the dentist. As a young girl, I was frightened. Having strangers poke at my teeth and those really uncomfortable x-rays led me to better my situation. Later on did I learn how sugar was the main cause of sweet decay. So I made a change to reduce my intake of sweets to avoid any health and dental problems. Reading this has made me aware, again, as lately with all the stress in state testtaking has led me to be unaware of what I eat. Overall this article's gives of an insight on how to better.

This is article is great at exposing the harms that sugar can cause your body, and how sugar is so manipulative that it can be addictive as a drug. This also helps people become aware to what to chose when it comes to sweets. And it's incredible how much sugar humans consume in a year, sometime us not even noticing when sugar enters our system

Now, this is always an interesting topic! I am a big advocate for removing sugar where possible from your diet and especially not having sweetner as an alternative! As the expression goes, 'Sugar kills!' Not only is sugar unneccessarily everywhere we look, it creates cavities, weight gain, lethargy and moreover it leads to disease. We are often unware it's even an active ingredient at times! I mean did you know there were 20 spoons of sugar in one bagel, in one glass of orange juice? In a starbucks latte? White sugar is worse than brown, however no sugar is even better! It is amazing when you cut it down, or out, how much more energy you have and the weight will noticably drop off! So, try it and cut down/out and watch the results!

I think it's interesting how we hear more about the bad forms of sugar replacements rather than the good ones. For example, I've heard more talk about Splenda and Equal rather than using agave nectar which is a natural sugar replacement. It was also interesting to hear about how our sugar consumption average is at a 90-180 lbs of sugar a year. That really puts it in perspective and makes me think twice about the Dr. Pepper that I'm craving.

Wow! 90 to 180 lbs of sugar per year? This floored me. I had no idea we were consuming so much. I have been cutting down on sugars for the past 6 months and its been hard, my teenage son struggles the most. I stopped buying juice over a year ago, we cut down on soda significantly in the past 6 months-we only buy it when we are having guests over and we dring iced tea w/no sugar or plain water. We do indulge in a pastry about once a week but I buy a lot of fruit, which has a lot of sugar/carbs which I've learned raises our insulin levels so I'm now cutting down on fruit as well but I can't seem to come to terms about eliminating it from our diet completely. Baby steps I suppose but man? 180 pounds?! again, WOW. K.A.

The video was great and I wish I could say it surprises me about how much sugar we consume, but it doesn't. I 100% believe that too much sugar can lead to a number of illnesses and eventually early death. The fact that really got me in the video was when she said that children will not be out living their parents anymore. That is very sad and shocking. What you put into your body really has it's affects and I wish that more classes would teach Nutrition and help more people prevent these life-threatening diseases.

This post was very informative. Sugar is a problem that most of us face when trying to eat a healthy diet. Nowadays everything we eat contains artificial sugars and preservatives. It is hard to leave sugar out of one's diet especially considering that the brain yearns for it. Sugar triggers our rewards system and makes us feel happy. However, there are other healthy foods that contain natural sugars and trigger the reward system in our brain the same way artificial sugars do.

Very informative. Pretty shocking that the average American consumes 90-180 lbs of sugar each year! I also was shocked to learn that 80% of our food has added sugar. That's a lot! As Americans, we need to wake up and stop consuming all of this sugar, and start eating healthier.

I completely agree that if we can make the change to take in less sugar whether that’s from not buying that one specific piece of candy or not drinking that one extra can of soda. We can definitely benefit our lives that can start the same night because by not taking too much high intakes of sugar daily will soon in the future extend our life and our immune system as the sugar in our system won’t be destroying our body and the functions that goes along with it. -DC

This is very informative! It's very shocking how the average American eats between 90 to 180 pounds of sugar every year. Reducing your sugar intake is a great idea because you'll be able to avoid health issues such as diabetes, heart problems, and other serious issues. Sugar is very addicting to certain people especially if you have a sweet tooth. Changing the intake of sugar little by little can help out a lot. There are many other options instead of using sugar, Stevia is one of the most thing used, it is a perfect alternative for sugar. By not buying certain foods such as candy or not buying soda can help a little but at least you're starting. Taking in a lot of sugar can be very hurtful to our immune system and it can be more hurtful to children since they haven't fully grown. We should stop destroying our immune system with sugar.

I think that this article is very informative as everyone can agree aas well as a good idea to put out. It’s expressive how many Americans consumer 90-180 POUNDS OF SUGAR every year. Which eventually effects both the brain and the body together but people continue to see over that and continue to consumer that amount of sugar or even more which can put their life’s at risk. So it very informative to put thus article out their which can inform people especially Americans about the things that their consuming can damage their life And health now and in the future. - C.C.

I think that one of the most shocking things from the article was finding out that Americans consume between 90 to 180 pounds of sugar each year. The excess intake of sugar paired with a poor diet can lead to diabetes and a life full of health problems. Giving kids sugar a lot growing up can cause problems for them in their teeth and have consequences for the rest of their lives. Additionally, if kids don’t learn the dangers of sugar they put themselves at risk of doing poor health choices.

I think that this blog is simple and informative as it communicates the basic idea that sugar, or at least processed sugars are very much unhealthy for consumptions. It’s shocking to know that children and adults consume from 90 and up to 180 pounds of sugar a year. This blog demonstrates how good sugar can be and how bad it can be as well. The example of the dentist appointment scenario is just that, as in explains that in order to handle things like anesthesia, sugar levels in a person should be stable. However consuming too much of the bad sugar can not only cause cavities but overall health issues leading to diseases. -J.H.

Thank you for this informative post! I agree, while many of us don't really pay attention to what we consume, we can all make some changes to our sugar intake. I admit that sometimes I can go a little overboard on the amount of sugar I consume. However, for a while now, I’ve gradually made some changes to my eating habits, like eliminating sugary drinks and switching over to water. I stopped drinking soda after finding out that it causes tooth decay and weakens tooth enamel, as you mentioned! After reading this post, I'll definitely make some additional changes to reduce my sugar intake. I'll try switching out sugary snacks for fruits and vegetables, and try to incorporate foods that naturally contain healthier sugars, like stevia!

Yes sugar is killing us. It is very unhealthy when eaten in large amounts. Especially junk food, sodas, juices. Maybe if we would use a more natural sweetener instead of sugars out bodies would feel and operate better. Long term affects on eating tons of sugar throughout your life can be deadly. Take care of your temple.

I found this blog very interesting and informative because it made me know many new things about sugar. If we overeat sugar once, our insulin levels rise and convert the sugar in the blood to lipids for future use. This also why eating a lot of sugar makes you crash and gives you a "sugar coma" because the insulin has pulled the sugar out of the bloodstream, causing drowsiness and tiredness. When we chronically overeat sugar for a long time, the expected effects are increased fat stores in the body, possibly leading to obesity. Another side effect is that over time, the insulin response to the high sugar levels becomes blunted or doesn't work as well, leading to a pre-diabetic condition or even diabetes itself. Added sugar is so unhealthy that it is probably the single worst ingredient in the modern diet. Sugar is empty calories, no doubt about that. Most high-sugar foods, like pastries, sodas, and candy bars, contain minimal essential nutrients. People who eat them instead of other more nutritious foods will probably become deficient in many essential nutrients. When we eat fructose, it goes to the liver. If liver glycogen is low, such as after a run, the fructose will replenish it.

Not only was your experience with low blood sugar very eye opening to me, coming from someone that avoids sugar in weekdays but goes crazy and self indulge on sweet during the weekends. I can see the harm I really do to myself and how it's important to chose the right sugars to be healthy. I tend to lean towards fructose more than glucose and I do more damage than good. After seeing the video of how sugar is not only impacting adults but also causing kids to have physical and mental problems is sad. Because they haven't even had the chance to fully developed and they're already having ''older'' people health problems.

I love that you spoke about sugar alternatives like stevia. I like things that are sweet, but I know that sugar can be addicting and not great for your body if you use too much. Currently, I am growing my own stevia plant in my veg trug because of having a healthy alternative, but having a sweet tooth can be possible due to stevia having no calories -- yet, it has the sweetness that one craves.

This post reminded me to be stricter in restricting my sugar intake since, as mentioned in the post, sugar can be found in "unexpected items." I want to take care of my body while I am young so that I can keep my body healthy and functioning well. Furthermore, I want to develop good eating habits while I am still a young adult. I also appreciated the section about alternatives to sugar! These are sugar replacements that I can easily keep an eye out for, and thus they will help me improve my eating habits and overall lifestyle. MT

Now I'm glad to know it has a low glycemic index which is less chance to become fat. It's also great to know that it's sweeter than sugar due to its density. I will note that NutraSweet, Equal, Splenda as sugar replacements are not good for you. I'll be sure to tell my mom know that.

Thank you Dr. D! I really enjoyed reading about your personal experiences that have brought you to such great conclusions regarding the effects of "sugar" on our "health." I have always thought that with the sky high rate of obesity and diabetes in this country we don't address the issues of our diet and hold ourselves accountable for these health problems enough. In America we talk about drugs and alcohol's effects on our health but I believe sugar belongs in the same category because consumption can also lead to addiction and even death. Avoiding sugar is not just about aesthetics its crucial to our bodies well-being and overall health. Thank you!

We all know that consuming too much sugar is unhealthy. One of the most helpful ingredients in any food recipe, in my opinion, is sugar. Sugar is also pervasive in our environment. Coca-cola, sometimes known as "coke," is a well-known beverage. When it was analyzed as a syrup-like suspension, it was said to contain a lot of sugar in only one can or bottle. Additionally, it was associated with numerous diabetes cases in the US that could result in serious complications or even death. And I completely concur with the study blog that says consuming less sugar leads to a longer lifespan if we are aware of the harmful and beneficial effects it has on our body's hormones, digestion, and even the brain.

An excess of refined sugar in our diet can affect us in a variety of ways, but one of the major ones has to do with its effect on our brains. A desire for more sugar can lead to cravings, mood swings and that all-too-familiar energy crash which often leaves us reaching for more sugar in order to pick us back up again!
It can also lead to sugar addition because of its mood enhancing qualities – sugar prompts our brains to release serotonin and dopamine (our ‘happy’ hormones), so the instant lift we get is one of the reasons why many of us continually seek out foods that produce these feel-good emotions again and again.
Focusing on a healthy diet and giving up sugar entirely can go a long way towards increasing your energy levels, improving your memory and allowing you to concentrate more clearly.

Monkfruit is a great sugar alternative that has been recommended to a lot of people I know, especially diabetics. I recently convinced my parents to switch over to monkfruit and they really like it! I personally think it is a lot better than stevia and agave, so I truly recommend monkfruit to anyone. It also bakes well, so whenever I am making my daughter her favorite zucchini bread, I stick to monkfruit sugar instead of using granulated sugar.
It is sad to realize how much sugar is in everything we eat or drink, for example a simple Starbucks drink can have over 48 grams of sugar for a grande drink. If you do the math, that is over 11 teaspoons of sugar in one drink!! Sugar really does more harm to the body than good.

Benefits of cutting out sugar includes regulating your blood sugar, aids in weight management, improves your oral health, reduces your risk of liver disease, helps your heart health, may reduce acne and improve skin health, may lower your risk of depression. You may live longer. Sugar also increases unhealthy blood fats called triglycerides in the blood, which up risk for heart disease and stroke. Those who eat the most added sugar are most likely to die from heart disease than those who do not. Our bodies need one type of sugar, called glucose, to survive. Glucose is the number one food for the brain, and it is an extremely important source of fuel throughout the body. The brain is dependent on sugar as its main fuel. It cannot be without it. Although the brain needs glucose, too much of this energy source can be a bad thing. - Viviana Garcia

Learning that the average American eats between 90 to 180 pounds of sugar each year was disgusting, but it makes sense. Every food label that you pick up at the grocery store has added sugar. I don't keep any artificial or added sugar in my house, but you can find it in surprising products like taco seasoning, or even yogurts that are labeled as "healthy". It is so important to look closely at the food labels. One app that I use is called "Yuka". With this app, you can scan food products and it will tell you if it has bad ingredients or it explains the ingredients that many of us can't even read.

This is was a very interesting post,
I really felt the urge to comment on this post because I saw SUGAR, Sugar is my number one enemy, as I know how it can deteriorate our health. I make sure to let my surrounding people know to avoid sugar as much as possible unless it is natural form of sugar which comes from fruits, though I think even natural sugar should be consumed with portion control. It is so harmful in countless ways, Starting from your teeth to your internal organs to your entire metabolism. The fact that sugar is hidden in so many ingredient in large amount makes me very upset as people are consuming over what they are suppose to which leads to serious diseases...Years ago I completely quit all sodas and juices, the only juices we drink in my house are the ones I makes myself with natural fruits...
when it comes to my children, it ca be difficult to drastically cut all sugar as they love to consume it, so I always try to put limits to it. I changed candies for vitamins gummy bears which works amazingly.

Unhealthy types of sugar can make us sick and develop certain diseases like diabetes. but limitation of intake is necessary for our body to function properly. Triglycerides, an undesirable blood fat that raises the risk for heart disease and stroke, are also increased by sugar. A less favourable lifestyle in general was linked to higher sugar consumption. Even while it may be difficult to refrain from ordering an ice cold coke with your burger or refrain from grazing your fingers in the candy bowl at gatherings, cutting out sugar from your diet can have a substantial positive impact on your health. If you frequently indulge yourself to dessert and a cup of tea after dinner or pack a granola bar from the shop with your lunch every day.
