"Think Pink"-Breast Cancer- Walnuts

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I decided to change the background and the heading of my blog to the color “Pink”. "Psychologically, pink has been judged the sweetest color" stated Vargas, 1986:144. A report in the Science Digest stated that “pink causes the hypothalamus to signal the adrenal glands to slow their secretions, thus reducing heart rate and blocking anger.” So, this post should make you feel very calm. The first known use of a pink in connection with a ribbon was through breast cancer awareness in the fall of 1991. The Susan G. Komen Foundation handed out pink ribbons to participants in its New York City race for breast cancer survivors. Ten years later, races are held all over the United States. The aim is to raise awareness of breast cancer and support those organizations making a difference to find a cure while supporting those living with breast cancer. Please continue to support the Race for the Cure by purchasing whatever you see with the pink ribbon logo attached. Some of the items included: Bottled water, mugs, jewelry, sporting apparel, and a host of others. I would not be alive today had there not been funding for breast cancer research. So, “Think Pink” when you are shopping this month! You could be saving someone’s life.

In my previous post, I shared the importance of having nuts in your daily diet. It reminded me of a particular segment that I saw on the Dr. Oz show last season.

Dr. Oz made a profound statement. He said, “You cannot afford to live without this particular nut in your daily diet.” I was diligently taking notes and watching intently because he mentioned a couple of buzz words that made me stand up and take notice. Dr. Oz talked about walnuts and  Breast Cancer.  So, this post will focus on the benefits of having walnuts in your diet and how it helps to prevent breast cancer.

It's funny what you learn about foods you like to eat as you get older. I've always loved walnuts but never knew there were actual benefits to eating them. And this article hits a lot closer to home these days: my first cousin was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to have a double mastectomy in October of 2013. I've been worried about the possibility of the rest of us cousins having breast cancer, but if walnuts can help fight the chances of actually having breast cancer, you can guarantee that I'm going to eat them until I'm sick.

Good article; very informative.

It was interesting to learn how the pink color influence the hypothalamus, but most important all the benefits of walnuts and how adding this as a daily basis could help to reduce breast cancer among the benefits of other parts of the body.

You should check out the documentary Pink Ribbons Inc, a very interesting look at how this pink thing is far less about raising awareness for cancer and more about companies making money from people with good intentions. Breast cancer is a very serious problem and there needs to be a drastic change in the way it's addressed.

I was very surprised about how the color pink influences the hypothalamus and how walnuts can be very beneficial to reducing breast cancer.
